Rejuvenate The Soul In Vietnam With The World Karma Project

Rejuvenate The Soul In Vietnam With The World Karma Project

The World Karma Project is a project aimed at creating and promoting random acts of kindness. “Not a charity. Not a big organization. Just a guy, trying to create better communities one person at a time” ~ Adam Quang

The project bases its actions on the “karma bank,” in which the more good deeds you do, the more goodness will flow to you. The concept of the “karma bank” originates from an ancient Chinese text called “Changing Destiny: Liaofan’s Four Lessons.” Written more than 500 years ago, it shows how destinies are changed by doing good deeds.

The latest World Karma Project takes place in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, from March 3-17, 2012.

For two weeks, visitors will travel through UNESCO World Heritage sites on a dragon boat, stay in 4-5 star accommodations, practice yoga and meditation, eat delicious meals and learn Vietnamese cooking.
Participants will be led by Adam Quang, an energetic and easy-going fellow who started training as a Buddhist monk at 4 years of age and has been practicing the ancient arts all of his life. A registered yoga instructor with Yoga Alliance, he has achieved the E-RYT 500 Master level. Known for his wisdom and compassion, Adam’s students consider him a guru.

The tour costs $4300 CND (+HST) and covers all expenses, excluding airfare. The fee also helps build better communities, as a portion of the costs will provide a Vietnamese child with school tuition for a whole year. This donation not only helps a child, but adds to the karma bank towards making a better world.

Why Ha Long Bay? Because of a profound spiritual experience Adam had while last there:
“When kayaking on the bay, the sky ablaze with pinks and blues as the sun dips into the sea, a junk boat sails into view. Enveloped by mountains towering over the bay, it’s a dream-like scene of startling beauty. My breath deepens and my senses expand. My hand drifts into the water and I am refreshed, more truly myself than at any other time. I let go of the boundaries that define me. Everything is vivid: the smell of the ocean, the rhythm of the waves, the warmth of the sun. I am small within this vastness, yet connected at the same time. It is a perfect moment that produces a revelation: lead others to this place which opens the soul to the world outside, and to the world within.”

If you would like to know more about this World Karma Project trip, visit www.worldkarmaproject.com
or contact Adam Quang directly at [email protected] Adam is based in Toronto, and will be in Vancouver Nov 4-6 2011: The Yoga Conference Show.

SUN SALUTATION FITNESS CHALLENGE 4 THE KIDS

You can put kids in sports. They put themselves in the game…

Karma Yoga offers many teachers and students the opportunity to give back to their community and stay healthy through the asana practice of Yoga & meditation, and this time it’s for the kids.  Between Novemeber 1-7th, Athletics 4 Kids is holding a Fitness Challenge acrossVancouver and BC, and anyone can participate!

Did you know that more than 1/3 of Canadian children cannot participate in sports or recreational activities due to financial barriers? A4K helps raise awareness and funds so that kids can live their dreams and participate in sports, which as we know is fundamental to their development.

The concept behind the challenge is easy; participants sign up with their gym or studio, join a team and choose to tackle a bodyweight workout of 250 – 1000 repetitions based on their personal fitness level. The goal is to finish the exercise as quickly as possible and collect pledges/donations in your community to support your efforts.

This is the 4th year of the Challenge and it has grown by leaps and bounds every year, but we need your help to continue this momentum in order to get the kids in YOUR community off the couch and into the game.

How does Yoga fit into this challenge?

Easy, YogaFORM has hopped on board to teach A Sun Salutation Series at numerous gyms, inVancouver and on theNorthShore and you can participate.

The Sun Salutations will be based on how many you can comfortably perform within a 60min session ~ 250, 500 or 1000 meditative Sun Salutations, you can choose to move through them in a hatha style flow or bring a powerful Vinyasa intention and get your sweat on.

I will be teaching various fun and challenging modifications to this ancient practice of honoring the sun through the dynamic asana sequence Surya Namaskar!

With 3 – 4 classes to choose from throughout the week of November 1st – 7th you can choose to attend one or all of them, join our team and get your pledge on!

The drop in rate for the class will also be donated directly to the A4K Fitness Challenge!

How to join the YogaFORM/ Sarah Jamieson team or register for a class?

Check out my YogaFORM Facebook page for more details on locations and contact information. I you are interested in
participating please comment on our Facebook page or email me at [email protected] and I will send you the karmic details and class A4K Yoga Sun Salutation schedule.

Together we can support kids and their dreams! Let’s get out there and play! Ask your local gym or studio if they are supporting Athletics 4 Kids and get involved!

THE RADICAL ROAD OF A SPIRIT JUNKIE

to heal is to make happy. Spirit is in a state of grace forever. Your reality is only spirit. Therefore you are in a state of grace forever.’ ~ A Course in Miracles

On Monday night I was joined with many friends and like minded powerful women as we sat and listened to Gabrielle Bernstein tell her personal journey on her North American book tour, “Spirit Junkie.” An event held at the Planetarium and hosted by Conscious Divas, a local company that holds “Dive Date Nights” and events that empower young women to follow their dreams share and tell stories of life, success and well… everything! And as always, the universe seems to unfold when it is needed most.

Touted as a role model for Gen-Y women, Gabby’s writing sets a vibe that draws you in with a down-to-earth tone and she speaks to you almost like a loving sister imparting wisdom for inner peace and joy.

So, how does a New York City publicist and party girl turn into an urban go to guide and inspirational guru for the next generation?

Part memoir and part guide, In her new book, Spirit Junkie: A Radical Road to Self-Love and Miracles, Gabby shares her personal story of how she transformed her life, offering her spiritual journey as a guidebook for overcoming fear, changing perceptions, and creating a life you’re psyched to wake up for. She has traded self-doubt and addiction for a new kind of high and In 2005 she became a student of A Course in Miracles.

Spirit Junkie is Gabby’s second book of brilliance, “Add more ~ing to your Life: A Hip Guide to Happiness was her first, and since then she has been guided to teach those spiritual principles to the next generation of seekers. Spirit Junkie is her personal story that acts to instruct us all on how to “expect miracles” in our own lives, and to Be the Change, by Be-“ing” the Love throughout our own lives.

One of the topics Gabby spoke of most was her delight in dropping the “f” bomb – FEAR. The most important lesson is that we have a choice to live in fear or love. When we make the decision to project our fears onto the world, fear is what we will experience, its that simple. When we begin to shift those fear-based perceptions to love, then miracles occur and we start to make changes that affect the rest of our lie decisions.

I highly recommend this book, as well as checking out her numerous online websites that give you the opportunity to download meditations, inspirational vlogs and of course connect with other hip and fab women co-mingling in what Gabby calls – Power Posse’s!

Welsh Team Turns to Yoga for Rugby World Cup Glory

Welsh Team Turns to Yoga for Rugby World Cup Glory

Wales, Rugby World Cup vs Samoa. Source: http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/home/teams/team=33/photo/index.html

In New Zealand, the highly anticipated Rugby World Cup is underway. Twenty teams have been waiting four years for the chance to demonstrate their skills on the pitch and take home the title as the world’s best rugby team.

According to articles on BBC and WalesOnline.co.uk, the Welsh team, known for their brutish hard work and gruff demeanour, “turned to yoga in a bid to boost their quest for World Cup glory.”

Wales hand-picked six players who they thought were more susceptible to injury and not as flexible as other players. They made the yoga portion optional to other players, but ended up turning people away because they could only fit 10 in the room.

Many of these players went from being unable to touch their toes, to placing hands flat on the ground. The conditioning chief commented, “If you think, the ball goes over their head, they have to stretch, they get hit in awkward positions, they have to run and they have to have certain mobility to hit positions in running. The guys were good. They said we’ll give it a go and the feedback was excellent.”

This is not the first instance of professional athletes using yoga to improve their flexibility and strength in their primary sport. Just in the Vancouver area, the Vancouver Canucks are known to use yoga for strength and conditioning and, recently on Vancouver Yoga Review, Taya journaled Milan Lucic’s foray into Bikram’s Yoga Metrotown as part of cross-training.

Two weeks into the Rugby World Cup, Wales has both won and lost a game. Stay tuned to action in New Zealand to see how the yogic preparations pay off for the Welsh!

Play. Build. Reach. Learn – [email protected] Event!

An amazing conference is taking place today, a conference that will showcase the extraordinary talent, passion and creativity behind our children and youth. That conference is [email protected]!

So what does this have to do with Yoga? Well… absolutely nothing! But I has everything to do with community and imagination!

[email protected] is an extension, an independent community of Ted.com, the globally recognized “Ideas Worth Spreading” phenomenon. Our conference is unique as kids are involved in everything! From filming and production, to photography, to design, to well….everything!

[email protected]  is a platform for facilitating opportunities to empower kids and support authentic learning. Some of British Columbia’s most awe-inspiring kids will share their experiences and inspire others to follow their dreams.

Our vision is to visualize a world in which the kids have been invited to explore their passions. A world in which they’ve been granted the right to influence decisions impacting their lives. A world in which they stand up with adults as equals and use their creativity and skills to make a brighter future for us all!

Each speaker has based their riveting talk centered around one of four themes, and let me tell you – these speakers are amazing! Being a speaker myself (1 of 2 adults), I can say in all honesty – these kids ARE EONS MORE AMAZING THEN ME!

We invite you to Play, Build, Reach and Learn together – Great metaphors for life:

Play is about being adventurous, thrilled to explore, willing to collaborate with others, dreaming — in other words, it is about immersing yourself in the world with the body and the senses.

Build is obviously about being creative, but also being innovative, eager to put your hands on tools and driven by beauty in shaping the world around you — it is about applying the passion and skills.

Reach is about understanding others and self, being compassionate, accepting everyone for what they are, helping those in need — it is about giving from the heart.

Learn is about being curios, inquisitive, thinking critically, courageous to fail, strong to stand up — it is about understanding the world and building the mind; it is about being yourself/being authentic.

If you are feeling in the need for a little inspiration, I encourage you to visit our live stream and watch these amazing speakers. This is the stuff great leaders are made of, prepare to be blown away!
